President of our Society, Professor Goran Vlastelica, PhD, guest professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics

The President of the Croatian Geotechnical Society, prof.dr.sc. Goran Vlastelica, PhD, employed at the University of Split, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, became a guest professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economy, Faculty of Civil Engineering, founded in 1782. (https://epito.bme.hu/?language=en).

On this occasion, apart from his regular duties, Prof. Vlastelica, under the auspices of the ISSMGE Hungarian group, delivered a lecture on 18 February 2026 with the title

“Challenges of Excavation Design in Flysch Rock Masses: Lessons Learned from a Case Study in Split, Croatia“.

On this occasion, the Dean, Professor Szabolcs Rózsa, PhD, gave a lecture and handed the plaque.

This respectable European university has given four Nobel Prize winners. Among the professors at the Civil Engineering Faculty, the famous names are Pál Csonka (1896–1987), a professor known for the Csonka-Werner method, and Jáky József (1893–1950), who developed the famous formula for earth pressure at rest. Professor Jáky founded the geotechnical laboratory, one of the oldest in Europe, still active at the Faculty.
