This respectable European university has given four Nobel Prize winners. Among the professors at the Civil Engineering Faculty, the famous names are Pál Csonka (1896–1987), a professor known for the Csonka-Werner method, and Jáky József (1893–1950), who developed the famous formula for earth pressure at rest. Professor Jáky founded the geotechnical laboratory, one of the oldest in Europe, still active at the Faculty.
