Split 2026 SATURDAY, 14 November, MARJAN, Šantine stine

At the Šantine Stine locality, steep cliffs composed of Eocene Foraminiferal Limestones are prominently exposed. The thrust front of the carbonate block forming the northern part of the Marjan Peninsula is also clearly expressed here. The locality is therefore well suited for observing the relationship between tectonic structure and landscape morphology, as well as the role of resistant carbonate rocks in shaping the relief of Marjan.
(dr. Krešimir Petrinjak and Marko Budić, Croatian Geological Survey)

The name Šantine stine comes from the meaning of “holy rock” because hermits lived there. Today, free climbers and, as in the whole of Marjan, runners and walkers are often found here. Forest, sea around, benches here and there, some small churches, Botanical garden… More eg >>>
