Two excellent lectures on the geotechnical damages of the M7.5 2024 earthquake

Today, April 27, in Zagreb, we had the opportunity to follow very rich and interesting lectures on the surprising damages of the 2024 M7.5 earthquake, in the area damaged by another famous earthquake, M7.5, which struck the Niigata area 60 years ago, in 1964.

The inspiring Professor Kyoko KATAOKA, PhD described in detail the conditions in the Niigata area, the damages in 2024, compares them with the damages from 1964, and explains the necessity to transfer the knowledge, but also the experiences of the people who lived through some significant earthquakes:

Professor Naoki WATANABE, PhD, showed details of some of the landslides – not yet explained: there were over 3000 soil failures and landslides:

A deep gratitude is due for sharing these data, ideas and questions.

The lectures will be repeated in Split this Tuesday, April 28.
